Smoke Without Fire! – Fire Service Training

Just the other day Bishop Castle’s fire engine got a callout to the former Stars newsagent at 68 Church Street. When they arrived at the scene, they were greeted by smoke billowing from the windows, but no sign of a blaze. Luckly it was just a training exercise, set up by the station’s watch manager Simon Harris, to give his fire crew hands on experience searching an old building whilst wearing breathing apparatus.

“Bishops Castle has many older properties with a complicated layout,” said Simon. “It’s really important that our retained firemen get the chance to practice a realistic search and rescue in this way. The old Stars was a great venue for our exercise. We very much appreciate that the community land trust was prepared to let use it”
